8月発刊予定の『必ず成功するホテルリノベーション part8』では村上明穂氏による海外のホテルトレンド事例紹介「Trend or Style of Hotel Design 2015 Innovation is the essential ingredient of Renovation」を掲載している。
本稿ではその一部をHOTERESオンラインにて紹介する。
The Rosebery, Mandarin Oriental
1. What acted as source of inspiration for The Rosebery project?
The gardens of Hyde Park and the buzz of Knightsbridge. Also the tradition of the elegant tea rooms of the past and “hightea”
2. Please tell what was the most challenging in the work on The Rosebery project.
As the building is 130 years old a lot of consideration was given to options which retained the existing structure, whilst still allowing us to open the room up to give a light, fresh and
spacious feel.
We also had to ensure that the renovation could take place whilst the hotel was fully operational.
3. What will you call the most prominent element of The Rosebery interior and why?
We wanted to bring the gardens of Hyde Park to life and sovarious items and artworks were chosen to help make the
Rosebery feel as though it were an extension of those gardens, from the bespoke rugs manufactured by Tai Ping which represent the ponds to the colourful contemporary art by
Orlanda Broom that suggests the flowers of the garden; wild and bright.
The calm Zen garden is referenced through the white central artwork by Jenny Smith, whilst the life of the park can be seen in the moving peacock artwork above the bar which was created by Yu-Cheng Chou.
4. Did GA Design International design the furniture and illumination for the project by itself or you work with independent product designers or bureaus? If yes, please, name them.
We designed all furniture and illumination for all our projects as a bespoke service. We then had our own client-specified suppliers and manufacturers construct these pieces. [We
unfortunately cannot disclose these suppliers due to Client confidentiality.]
